TOOLStable Cell Viability Reagent - The fastest way to figure out the metabolic activity of your cells
2019-09-04
TOOLStable Cell Viability Reagent is a metabolic proliferation assay for cell viability detection, which is based on ATP detection of viable cells. ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) is an energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all organisms, which is involved in many enzymatic reactions of cells for maintaining normal life activities. When normal cells undergo programmed cell death (autophagy, apoptosis, or necrosis), the cellular ATP content of the cells will fall dramatically. Thus, ATP has been widely accepted as a significant marker of viable cells.
Schematic diagram of TOOLStable Cell Viability Reagent
TOOLStable Cell Viability Reagent is a fast and highly sensitive tool for quantifying cell viability, using luciferase reaction to measure the amount of ATP in viable cells. The reagent contains detergent to lyse the cells and release ATP, luciferin as a substrate, and the stable luciferase can catalyze the formation of luminescence from ATP and luciferin. Therefore, the amount of ATP is directly proportional to luminescence intensity, and also the number of viable cells present in culture. The advantage of ATP based cell viability assay is that it does not require incubation with a population of living cells for converting a substrate into a colored compound, such as tetrazolium salt based MTT, WST-1, and CCK-8 assays.
